City Council Holds Public Hearing for Boys & Girls Club

Published on September 26, 2012 by Larry Crippen

Tuesday night, the Huntsville City Council held a public hearing. The Boys and Girls Club of Walker County is asking for an additional in-kind funding match in order to apply for a grant from FEMA.

Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Michelle Spencer explains . . . .

Ms. Spencer said, “That also increases the match for Boys and Girls Club which takes our match to $613,000 dollars.” The club is required to raise five percent of the $1.8 million dollar project. The City’s administration of the grant in in-kind funding would be $123,517 dollars, and project management of the grant would be $123,517 dollars in in-kind funding.

The club is raising money to qualify for a grant that would provide them with a gym that would also be put to use during tornadoes.

Last night, councilmembers postponed a decision regarding the grant issues until Monday, October 1st, at 5:30 PM.
