The Grand Ole Opry will celebrate Minnie Pearl’s 100th birthday with a special ‘Hats Off’ show in honor of the comedienne on October 23. The show will celebrate Minnie’s humor and more than 50-year Opry career with videos, performances and remembrances by Amy Grant, Pam Tillis, Mel Tillis and Little Jimmy Dickens, comedians Henry Cho and T. Bubba Bechtol, and more.
In celebration of Minnie’s legacy of caring for others, five dollars from every ticket purchased for the show will go to The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. Tickets for the show may be purchased at opry.com, 1-800-SEE-OPRY or at the Opry Ticket Office.
“Minnie Pearl was an incredibly funny lady and an extraordinarily giving human being,” Pete Fisher, Opry vice president and general manager, said. “We’re excited about celebrating the love and laughter the character Minnie Pearl embodies with our guests and with our partners at The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation.”
“The spirit of Minnie Pearl is alive and well within The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation,” Susan Hosbach, executive director of The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, said. “We’ve been celebrating our 25th anniversary and Minnie’s 100th birthday all year long. ‘We are just so proud’ to partner with the Grand Ole Opry to give Minnie and her legacy a celebration worthy of an icon.”
Fans can also win a trip to the show by submitting a video sharing their best Minnie Pearl “HOWDEE” at opry.com by Sept. 17. The Opry will choose their five favorites and fans will vote to choose the grand-prize winner on Oct. 5. The winner will receive tickets, a two-night stay at Gaylord Opryland Resort, round-trip airfare aboard Southwest Airlines, and more.
