Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw’s Brothers of the Sun Tour set the record as the largest ticketed country event in New York City/New Jersey history, with 56,285 tickets sold to their Saturday night tour stop at MetLife Stadium. Kenny previously set the record last summer on his Goin’ Coastal Tour.

“The excitement and buzz for this show was through the roof since the day it was announced,” Interim MetLife Stadium President Ron VanDeVeen said. “We couldn’t imagine how last year’s ‘Goin’ Coastal’ show could be topped, but this truly was the biggest country show we’ve ever seen.”

Kenny opened his set with “Beer in Mexico” and “Keg in the Closet” and kept the audience entertained with a non-stop performance. He brought tour special guest Grace Potter back on stage for their duet “You and Tequila” and also performed his latest No. 1, “Come Over.”

“I want to thank you for having us back, and thank you for letting us be a part of your summer,” Kenny told the crowd during his set. “After tonight we only have four shows left, and we’re gonna take this night with us all winter.”

To acknowledge the area’s divide between their two football teams, Kenny held up a Giants helmet in one hand and a Jets helmet in the other. He then presented them to two lucky audience members. The show ended with Kenny and Tim reuniting on the stage to perform a couple of their biggest hits. They then brought out Grace Potter and Jake Owen to close down the night with a cover of Jackson’s Browne’s “Running on Empty.”

The Brothers of the Sun Tour is the biggest tour of 2012, according to Pollstar. Last week, it also broke the million ticket mark, making it the 9th time in 10 years that Kenny’s touring resulted in ticket sales of one million or more.
