Thanksgiving is a time for creating memories as well as sharing them. For Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley, his favorite Turkey Day memory involved a lot of food.

“One of my most memorable Thanksgiving memories was probably the first year that me and my two brothers decided to start our annual eating contest where we ate throughout the whole day,” he said. “We started that morning and weighed ourselves and at the very end of the night, we weighed ourselves out and all three of us equally gained five pounds. I wish we had a more accurate scale to decide the winner, but we all tied. Five pounds!”

Mallary Hope’s most memorable Thanksgiving also involved a lot of food. Instead of an eating contest though, she and her family were digging in to a home-cooked spread well before the turkey is out of the oven in many homes. Her mom was so anxious about the family coming over for dinner that she got quite a head start.

“She got up really early and started cooking our dinner, and she had the turkey and the dressing and the pecan pie and the mashed potatoes and fried potatoes,” Mallory said. “She went all out and called us in for dinner, and it was 10 o’clock in the morning. We all had to sit down at 10 in the morning and just eat and eat and eat.”

Eric Paslay echoes the family and food sentiment as a favorite memory. “My best Thanksgiving memory, I think, is just hanging out with family, watching football and eating too much!” he said,
