It was a Miranda Lambert song that really changed things for Cassadee Pope on The Voice.

“I
think I started to really feel like I had a chance when ‘Over You’ charted. That was something that I never thought I would
accomplish on my own. That’s when I started to continue doing country songs because I thought maybe there was something there
that I was missing and it turns out that I actually love incorporating a little country in the pop/rock genre,” Pope told
a radio station.

“I
would love to do a crossover thing where it’s pop/rock and could cross over to country because I love country music as well.
I never thought they would accept me, but they sort of have,” she added.

That’s likely because Blake Shelton was her
team coach — and head cheerleader — from the day she auditioned with Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn,” to the night she won The
Voice
with Faith Hill’s “Cry.”

As for her upcoming recording plans, she’s hoping for an album that does more than
just string tracks together.

“I love albums that tell a story. And I know it’s all about singles, which I can respect,
but I also want my album to be cohesive, and I don’t want every song to sound completely different from the other,” she said.
“Because as an artist, that’s not what I want to do.”
