OFFSTAGE: Is the End of Nashville Just the Beginning?

Published on December 06, 2012 by CMT News

Nashville's Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and
out of the spotlight.)

It’s so hard to predict what the future of Nashville will hold. The show’s last episode
of the year on Wednesday (Dec. 5) left the door open to so many good plot lines: Juliette may be growing a heart, Rayna is
on top of the music world and Scarlett still has her banjo-pickin’ chops. But I see trouble ahead — with the guys, especially.
Deacon is leaving the country to tour with the newly-sober Rebel Kings, Avery is still a narcissistic ass, Teddy is getting
dragged through the mayoral-race mud and Gunnar may regret that make-out session with Scarlett in the Bluebird Café.
But more importantly, I hope the show doesn’t forget that the heart of Nashville, the city, really is the music. Not the drama
or the scandal. The finale was a little light on music, and the best song of the night came from the church of Juliette’s
chaste boyfriend. It was Kate York’s “For Your Glory,”
which York describes as kind of a prayer about “rising up out of the dirt and rust of real life.”
