OFFSTAGE: Kacey Musgraves Is Poetic and Potent, Says Rolling Stone

Kacey Musgraves
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and
out of the spotlight.)

“It ain’t what you want, it’s what you know. … Same hurt in every heart/Same trailer,
different park. … Just like dust, we settle in this town.” With lyrics like that, it’s no wonder Rolling Stone gave
newcomer Kacey Musgraves’ debut single, “Merry
Go ‘Round,”
such a rave review. They wrote that it’s
as poetic and potent as any song released in 2012
and was an instant classic. I’m sure that someday she will be a household
name. But so far, we don’t know all that much about Musgraves. What I do know is that she was in the Top 10 on Nashville
Star
when Blake Shelton was a judge back in 2007. (Which is ironic,
in a way, because he started judging four years after his future wife Miranda
Lambert
was a finalist on the show.) I also know she wrote the excellent Lambert song, “Mama’s Broken Heart,” and that
her upcoming album is being co-produced by Luke Laird (the songwriter behind hits like “Pontoon,”
“Baggage Claim,” “Last
Name”
and “Drink in My Hand”).
