OFFSTAGE: Keith Urban Can’t Keep Remaking the Same Record

Keith Urban
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and
out of the spotlight.)

If it were up to me, Keith Urban would
keep remaking Love, Pain the Whole Crazy Thing over and over again. God, I loved that album. But he won’t. Because,
as he told The Tennessean
newspaper in Nashville, “We can’t keep remaking the same record.” So this time around, he’s working with a new cast of characters
and writing songs he says he never would’ve written with anybody else. “I wanted to have everything around me be totally unfamiliar
to me, and I think it’s great, in a sense, that all sorts of stuff is coming out that I normally haven’t done before,” he
said. Even better, it sounds like Urban’s next album will have songs that are a little bit deeper. He told the newspaper that
one song he wrote with Jay Joyce and Jeremy Spillman is “a bit of my journey over the last six years, my transition,” he says.
I don’t know if he means his transition to fatherhood or sobriety — or both. But either way, I’m in.
