Scotty McCreery is off at college
now, and I’m assuming he brought his guitars with him. And I’m also assuming he doesn’t have a lot of downtime to play them.
But I remember last time I interviewed him, he told me a story about how he sometimes makes time for guitar at the end of
the day. He just falls asleep with it. “Every now and then, I go to bed sometimes, and I’ll be playing some tunes or trying
to write something and I just fall asleep in the middle of it,” he admitted. He has a lot of guitars to choose from, too.
“I have one Taylor I got before Idol, one Gibson I got during Idol, and then I’ve got a 1957 Gibson J-45. It’s
beautiful,” he told me of the guitar he named Rhett. “My producer gave that one to me for going platinum.” As for the tunes
he plays right before going to bed, McCreery says he’s not perfect but that he’s more in practice songwriting mode. “I’m by
no means 100 percent developed in my craft like the guys in Nashville are. I’m looking forward to spending more and more time
with the experts, learning about the art of songwriting.”
