OFFSTAGE: Scotty McCreery’s Thankful He’s Like Hannah Montana

When Scotty McCreery counts his blessing
this Thanksgiving, I think he’ll be thankful he’s just living a pretty normal college life. In the recent People Country
magazine, he compared his situation to that of Miley Cyrus’ Disney character
Hannah Montana. “People ask me, ‘How do you do it?’ I say, ‘I’m like Hannah Montana!’ I have my school life, and then I go
on the road,” McCreery said. “I want to keep a balance of the two.” So far, so good. And he doesn’t worry as much about keeping
a low profile on the North Carolina State University campus like he did in the beginning of the school year. But he’s determined
to get his degree because Garth Brooks told him to. And McCreery says
of that encouragement, “I mean, he’s doing pretty good for himself, so I think I’ll take his advice.”

And here’s why
we’re thankful for McCreery. He is turning his holiday show on Nov. 23 in New York City into the Beacon Theater Benefit
for Hurricane Sandy Relief. “Being from North Carolina, I have seen firsthand what hurricanes can do. I wanted to figure out
a way to help,” he said.
