OFFSTAGE: Tim McGraw Grew Up Revering the Military

Tim McGraw
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and
out of the spotlight.)

It seems like Tim McGraw has always been
good to the military. And now I think I understand why. He grew up in a family filled with soldiers, according to People
magazine, and so they all talked about the military service “with reverence.” In fact, he says he considered enlisting himself
before he started pursuing music seriously. That was right around the same time that McGraw’s sister, Tracey, joined the Army.
“We’ve talked about how lonely she got, and that’s something that’s stuck with me when I’ve met military families — how important
the contact they have from home is,” McGraw said. Tracey Jewell is a veteran of Desert Storm, and McGraw’s uncle John Dagostino
is a Vietnam veteran. The picture of the three of them in the magazine is a moving reminder to celebrate Veterans Day with
family, veterans or — if you’re honored enough to have veterans in the family like McGraw does — then both.
