Taylor Swift hosted a live chat and Google+ Hangout Monday night to make a big announcement. She didn’t make fans wait long, announcing at the top of the hour-long event that she will release her new album, Red, on October 22. She also premiered her new single, “We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together,” during the webcast. The single was made available on iTunes shortly after the chat.
“There are 16 songs on the new album and that’s not including any bonus tracks that you might find here or there,” Taylor said. “I wrote so many songs for this album that it was difficult to choose which one would make it and which ones wouldn’t. I ended up having to pick between 30 and 35 songs that I’d written.”
Taylor once again had a hand in co-writing every song on the album. When asked about her inspiration for the new material, she said she drew inspiration from relationships, both her own and those of friends, and spent much of the last two years with her eyes open to the world around her.
“When I’m writing an album, the world becomes a storyboard and everyone becomes a character or has the potential to be a character,” she said. “All of my friends and family and everyone around me kind of knows that. The last two years have been really inspirational.”
One of the biggest differences between Taylor’s Speak Now album and Red is that Taylor once again worked with co-writers. Among them was English singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. The pair co-wrote a song together on a trampoline and liked it so much they recorded it as a duet for Red.
“For my last album, I wrote it completely on my own,” Taylor said. “That was an amazing way to make a record and I was really proud of it. When it came to approaching this album, I wanted to go back to the drawing board and think of a different way and that was to call all of my songwriting and producing and artist heroes and see if they wanted to work together. Just make the call to see. I did that and got to work with some of my absolutely favorite people.”
In other Taylor news, she has picked up a new home! People.com reports Taylor purchased a house in Hyannis Port, Mass. Her new digs are across the street from new beau Conor Kennedy’s grandmother Ethel’s home.
“It’s in a beautiful location and right across the street from Conor and the Kennedys,” a realtor told People. “It’s a beautiful home. She got a nice home, paid fair price. The house was on the market for two to four years.”
According to the realtor, the property is a 13-room home overlooking Nantucket Sound. It has seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. Originally listed for $14 million, the realtor said it was ‘way overpriced.’ Taylor scooped up the home for a reported $4.9 million.
Taylor has been spending time with Conor in both Cape Cod and in Nashville. She already has the praise of grandmother Ethel’s daughter Rory, who calls the singer “a great friend of all of ours.”
