Singer-songwriters often refer to themselves as a songwriter first and performer second or vice versa. If Thomas Rhett absolutely had to choose between the two, he’d most likely go with being a performer.

“There really is no feeling like standing backstage and the stage manager says ‘Alright. Two minutes ‘til showtime,’” he said. “And you walk out there and you see the lights and you see the people and your band starts to play. I love both but, there’s really no feeling like walking on stage and playing.”

He hopes he never has to choose between the two as he also loves penning songs. “Before I got to perform songs, all I did was write,” he said. “I was in town five days a week writing tunes and I love waking up, coming into Nashville and getting into a room with a couple of other guys and writing songs.”

Thomas will have plenty of chances to hone his performer skills when he hits the road with Jason Aldean’s Night Train Tour in early 2013. His latest single, “Beer With Jesus,” is at radio now.
