Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney are rocking stadiums across the country on their Brothers of the Sun Tour. The pair have been friends for the last two decades and this many years into their relationship, Tim doesn’t think there’s anything left for him to know about Kenny.
“We’ve been friends for 20 years,” Tim told the LA Times. “Before we had record deals, we used to stay at each other’s apartment when one or the other of us didn’t have electricity. So I’m not sure there’s anything I don’t know about Kenny at this point. But I will say that his focus is something that continues to impress me.”
Tim just released a brand new single, “Truck Yeah,” his first as a Big Machine Records artist. The song uses ‘truck’ in place of a more risqué word, but Tim was looking for a track that hit listeners hard when he recorded it. “It’s having some fun with words, yeah,” he said. “But the thing about this record is that I just wanted to go into the studio and cut a track that tore your face off — like, ‘Damn, that is rockin’.’”
Tim is currently working on his first album since signing with his new record label. Fans can expect some more rockin’ tunes as well as tunes that are a little softer in nature. “I always try to put you on a roller coaster, where if you listen from start to finish, there’s some twists, some elements you didn’t expect,” he said.
The Brothers of the Sun Tour will stop in Anaheim and Oakland, California this weekend. Tim and wife Faith Hill sold their Los Angeles-area home in 2010 and now spend much of their time in Tennessee – and are facing the challenge of teenage daughters.
“With three daughters in school [in Nashville], we’re not out there much,” he said. “Movie projects are always floating around, but right now I’ve got this tour and a record coming out, so I’m not sure if I’ll have time for any of them. The main thing, though, is the kids: When you’ve got girls starting high school and trying to be independent, you want to be around as much as possible.”
