John Falk Jr. Trial Continues in Bryan

Published on November 28, 2012 by Larry Crippen

The capital murder trial of John Falk Jr., accused as an accomplice in the death of correctional officer Susan Canfield in 2007 at the Wynne Unit in Huntsville, continued Tuesday in a Bryan Courtroom.

The presiding judge in the case, Ken Keeling, excluded three state witnesses from testifying in the trial because they may have discussed what they planned to testify.  Inmate Noah Melton testified that he had discussed the case with three inmates in a holding cell who were to speak in court.

The Court also heard testimony from City of Huntsville employee Bobby Wilson who was working in the Service Center on the day of the escape. He said he “saw a convict run to the lady on the horse. He was grabbing the reins and spinning her around in circles.” He added, “That is when I heard the truck coming, and saw it plow into her.” He didn’t know the identify of the inmate, but witnesses on duty in the field claim it was John Falk, Jr.

The trial continues in Bryan this week.
