Lee Drain Building at SHSU Closed Earlier Due to Elevator Motor Burnout

Published on November 26, 2012 by Larry Crippen

Sam Houston State University Assistant Police Chief James Fitch informed us earlier today that the fire truck and police car activity on the university campus was in regard to a fire alarm at the Lee Drain building. Fitch said, “One of the elevator doors is hot to touch” There wasn’t, however, any visible smoke or flames at the time.

SHSU Associate Director of Communications Julia May informs us that it turns out that an elevator motor in the mechanical room burned out. At 3:30 this afternoon, she said the Lee Drain building would be on lockdown for several hours as the smoke aired out. There were no reports of injuries.
