New Police Dog For HPD

Published on June 27, 2012 by Larry Crippen

The Huntsville Police Department is proud to announce its newest member, a 2 ½ year old police dog named Raico. Raico, a Belgian Malinois, was purchased from K-9 Concepts in Brossard, Louisiana with funds generously donated by the citizens of Huntsville.

Officer James Reynolds, a three-year-veteran of the Huntsville Police Department, was selected to be Raico’s handler. Officer Reynolds and Raico recently completed a three-week K-9 handler’s course and are now patrolling the streets of Huntsville.

The K-9 program is an important tool in modern law enforcement and helps keep the community safe in a number of ways. Raico is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, building search, handler protection, and criminal apprehension.

Chief Kevin Lunsford and The Huntsville Police Department wish to thank the Huntsville community for all the donations that made the purchase of Raico possible.
