TDCJ Director of Public Information Michelle Lyons Resigns

Published on June 11, 2012 by Larry Crippen

Former director for public information for TDCJ, Michelle Lyons, has resigned and filed a suit against TDCJ. Lyons filed suit against the agency claiming gender discrimination following her demotion from director of public information to public information officer. After the demotion, she was reassigned to the Executive Services Department. Lyons believes TDCJ retaliated against her for reporting various TDCJ violations to the Office of Inspector General, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and state legislators.

TDCJ accused Lyons of keeping inaccurate time sheets. Lyons says the agencies allegations are false and were fabricated in order to demote her.

Lyons is seeking an unspecified amount in back pay, reimbusement for lost pension, compensatory and punitive damages, attorney fees, and court costs.
