SHSU Research Park Efforts Updated at Council Meeting

Published on July 18, 2012 by Larry Crippen

At Tuesday’s session of the Huntsville City Council, the efforts regarding the choice of a site for a proposed SHSU research park were discussed.

Interim City Manager Chuck Pinto said they are looking at information from a rough draft of a hotel study. Several locations in the city were suggested for a hotel in the research park area . . . .

Pinto said, as a result, they have temporarily stopped the annexation of land process down. He said he believes they will “go through a couple of months process before we can trigger anything or get back to taking any kind of formal action.”

The Council also authorized the interim city manager to apply for a SAFER grant which would pay for four new firefighters for the Huntsville Fire Department for two years, if granted.
