Six-Year-Old Houston Boy Drowns in Trinity River at Lake Livingston

Published on July 09, 2012 by Larry Crippen

Saturday morning, San Jacinto County law enforcement authorities recovered the body of 6-year-old James Vongxay of Houston who disappeared Friday on the Trinity River at Lake Livingston. Family members waited together near the scene Saturday.

Crews searched for the boy on the water, on the ground, and by air.

The boy went missing sometime after family members went fishing Friday. San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Captain Carl Jones said the area where the boy disappeared was “very dangerous.” The danger is due to current from the spillway. The boy’s body was reported to have been stuck under a log in the water.

Authorities said the drowning was accidental, and no charges were expected to be filed.
