TxDOT Ready for Storms

Published on June 07, 2012 by Larry Crippen

As you may be aware hurricane season began on the first of this month, and TxDOT has informed the media that they are ready to promptly respond in the event of storms and flooding. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has predicted that the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through November 30th, will be “near-normal” with nine to fifteen tropical storms and four to eight of those strengthening into hurricanes.

If a tropical storm is forecast to make landfall along the Texas Gulf Coast, TxDOT crews will be mobilized statewide to help Texans flee from harm’s way and return home safely. They’ll use Twitter and Facebook to alert and update residents about road conditions, including contraflow and evacuation routes on state highways.

TxDOT urges residents, particularly those along the coast, to pay close attention to weather forecasts during hurricane season. They say being prepared is everyone’s responsibility and suggest the time to get prepared and make evacuation plans is now.
