Published on April 14, 2012 by Eric 'WizKid' Odom It has been nearly a month since the Sam Houston State Bearkats found themselves on the losing side of the scoreboard. With a 5-2 loss on Saturday afternoon to Lamar, the Kats had a winning streak of 13 games snapped. It also ended a run of 11 straight in conference play, the third longest in Southland history.

The No. 20 Bearkats (24-10, 14-3) were playing from behind for most of the game, falling two back in the second inning.

The Kats got a run in the third inning on an RBI single by Jesse Plumlee to score John Hale, who had led off the inning with a triple. They then tied the game in the sixth inning when a Jake Arrington groundout scored Corey Toupes.

But Lamar answered right back scoring a run in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings for the 5-2 win.

The Kats had their opportunities, despite just managing six hits for the game. They drew six walks, had two batters hit and left nine runners on base, including two in scoring position in the sixth and the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth.

Justin Jackson took the loss, falling to 6-3 on the season.

The Bearkats remain four games up in the conference after second-place Northwestern State also lost on Saturday afternoon.
