The Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center held their 19th Anniversary celebration Tuesday.
Tourist Director Kimm Thomas emceed the event recognizing guest services manager Jamie Mattews and honoring employees and volunteers. She also had a birthday cake standing by for Big Sam’s event.
The 67-foot-tall statue towering over I-45 was dedicated to the City in 1994 by artist David Adickes. Statue welder Keith Benthall was on hand Tuesday with a few anecdotes about the statue’s construction . . . .
Several city councilmembers were on hand, along with Mayor Mac Woodward . . . .
All were looking forward to a big 20th Anniversary Celebration next year.
