A panel of the Texas Senate Finance Committee has agreed to the closure of the $54 million dollar, 2,200 bed, private prison operated in Mineral Wells by Corrections Corporation of America. The committee agreed to let the contract expire in August. The facility has the reputation of being among the more dangerous prisons in Texas.
Senator John Whitmire has said there is enough room to transfer prisoners because of 12,000 beds available in the state.
