Charter Review Meeting Hears Citizen Input

Published on May 01, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The City’s Charter Review Committee listened to citizen input during their meeting at City Hall Tuesday.

Former council candidate and SHSU student Kendall Scudder said he would like to see the two at-large positions on the council done away with because he believes it impedes minority groups from specific local community representation. He also wants the age requirement for councilmembers to be changed from 21 to 18.

Former Mayor Karl Davidson was also in favor of fewer councilmembers. He also favored more town hall meetings featuring question-and-answer sessions.

Richard E. Lindeman suggested charter revisions. He proposed councilmember candidates’ residency qualifications be based on voter registration status and that video and audio recordings be made of all open council meetings.

The Charter Review Committee will reconvene May 14th at 5 PM.
