City Council Discusses Mural Issue

Published on February 06, 2013 by Larry Crippen

At Tuesday night’s regular session of the Huntsville City Council, councilmembers discussed how to solve an issue regarding repairs to a mural of Sam Houston at the former Adam’s Furniture building in downtown Huntsville.

There is an issue of whether the Terracon company should be funded by the City to oversee the repair work for reattaching the mural to the wall of the building. There also remains an issue of whether or not a leaking roof on the building may cause the mural to become dislodged from the wall again and, perhaps, endanger citizens. The building’s owner, John Smither, informed councilmembers the leak had been repaired. Further discussions with the building owner on how to resolve the issues should follow in the future.

In the meantime, Councilmember Keith Olson made a motion to amend a resolution that called for paying a full amount of $13,977 dollars, and for now, to just pay the bills at hand. Mayor Mac Woodward called for a vote . . . .

The amendment passed by a 4 to 3 vote.
