City Council Discusses Rules Issues

Published on March 06, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The Huntsville City Council met in regular session last night at City Hall.

A concern was raised by City Councilmember Ron Allen regarding the Rules of Procedure for councilmembers which is being worked on . . . .

COUNCIL#1-3-6-13

Allen was referring to changes in Section #4 of the document being formulated which was originally taken from the City of Hutto wording in their “rules” document as a possible model. This section says members of the council are to “respect and consider different points of view, even in private conversations” and to “inspire public confidence in Huntsville government.” There was also a media section which instructs councilmembers to not go off-the-record with reporters because “words that are not said cannot be quoted or misquoted.”

Councilmember Montgomery explained that the rules document was still under construction . . . .

COUNCIL#2-3-6-13

Mayor Pro Tem Johnson said in regard to further efforts on wording for the document, they “will have within the next week a date set for a meeting, probably on Saturday morning, for a workshop for this purpose.”
