The Huntsville City Council will take up the heated subject of the council’s Rules of Procedure in a workshop this afternoon at five.
The council has seen two heated debates in council chambers about the proposed language for professional conduct from councilmembers.
Councilman Ronald Allen blasted ideas presented early on from a similar document used by the City of Hutto. In particular, Allen had problems with a section that had language that referred to respecting different points of view in and out of session, a caution on going “off-the-record” with the media, and reprimands for not following the proper conduct in regard to rules . . . .
On March 19th, Mayor Mac Woodward pointed out there seemed to be only “some” parts of the changes that were controversial. He recommended the council step back, look over the proposal away from the council chambers, then come together to talk about what would be best for the City . . . .
The councilmembers will have had two weeks to ponder the proposals when they meet in their workshop this afternoon at five to discuss revisions to the City Council Rules of Procedure.
