City No Longer Picks Up Glass at Curbside

Published on April 04, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The City of Huntsville Solid Waste and Recycling Department has updated its regulations on heavy trash collection. As of April 1st, glass material of any kind is no longer being accepted on a curbside basis.

According to Superintendent of Solid Waste and Recycling, Esther Herklotz, the change was made as a safety precaution to protect both residents and City employees.

Herklotz said, “Due to recent large pane glass and mirrors breaking into pieces during collection, and because safety for both customers and staff are a priority, these types of materials will no longer be collected curbside during heavy trash collection days.”  She said, “The safest way for customers to dispose of these materials is to bring them directly into the City’s Disposal and Recycling facility, located at 590 I-45 North.”
