Commissioners’ Court Meets

Walker County Commissioners will meet for a regular session at nine this morning at the courthouse.

This morning, commissioners will hear an update on the construction of the new County Jail.

Commissioners will also discuss or approve any changes to the proposed budget. They will discuss and take a record vote to ratify the tax increase reflected in the budget, discuss and take a record vote adopting the new budget, and discuss and take a record vote to adopt a tax rate that exceeds the effective tax rate, and approve an order adopting the tax rate for the fiscal year October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014.

Today, Commissioners will approve amendments to the Financial Policies, Asset Management Policy, Fuel Policy and the Meals, Beverages, and Supplying Refreshments for Meetings Policy.

County Clerk Kari French will discuss for approval changes to the Sheriff’s and Constables’ fees for 2014.

County Auditor Patricia Allen will talk about approval of payment to the Sedalco construction company for the new jail for $1,224,459 from budgeted funds and approval of payment to Burns Architecture, the architect for the new jail, for $16,000 from budgeted funds.

Walker County Emergency Management Coordinator Butch Davis will discuss for approval the purchase of specialized software from contingency funds for $5,990 dollars and discuss approval of accepting grant funds for $25,815.

From the Extension Office, Meredith Henry will discuss a Department of State Health Services grant, Plan of Action, and a subcontract with the Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
