Council Discusses Open Hours Cutback at Library

Published on August 08, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Huntsville Public Library Head Librarian Linda Dodson addressed the Huntsville City Council this week about a proposal she took to City Manager Matt Benoit asking to reduce the hours that the library is open to the public.

Because of library expansion, patrons use of their services have gone up in areas like circulation, program attendance, new users, and computer usage . . . .

Ms. Dodson said that would give the staff an hour-and-a-half most mornings to get their work done, including programming or planning.

City Manager Matt Benoit said they haven’t acted upon the matter yet but wanted to get input on it. Benoit said he would not take immediate action but slowly start notifying others about an hours change at the library.
