The Huntsville City Council met for a workshop last night regarding their proposed Rules of Procedure to discuss issues they had with the draft they were working on.
During the last council session, Councilmember Ron Allen took issue with the proposed language in Section 4 which referred to respecting different points of view in and out of session, a caution on going “off the record” with the media, and reprimands for not following the proper conduct in regard to the rules.
Although it has been pointed out to Allen that the conduct rule proposal was taken only as a model from the City of Hutto to use only as a reference for discussion in formulating the rules, he objected to the move . . . .
Councilmember Tish Humphrey reacted to Allen’s statements in council meetings and work sessions in regard to their ongoing work on revising the Rules of Procedure . . . .
Mayor Mac Woodward suggested a solution to the conflict over the rules . . . .
Mayor Woodward further suggested that the revisions be submitted to him through Secretary Woodward. He would then look at them and meet with the individual councilmembers, work out the new language, and then bring back a new version to the council. Councilmembers agreed with the mayor’s suggestion.
