The Huntsville City Council met for a regular session last night at City Hall.
One of the major topics for discussion was the approval of an addendum to a Chapter 380 agreement with the Huntsville Hotel Group for a waiver of permit and tap fees not to exceed $15,000 dollars in their construction of a new hotel here.
The waivers were first presented to the council in January of 2011 and the hotel group has not yet begun construction. Director of Community and Economic Development Aron Kulhavy said it appeared one of the main holdups had been approval of a $15,000 dollar tax abatement from County Commissioners which was approved this past December.
Councilmember James Fitch wanted to wait on offering the waiver until performance requirements had been met.
Councilmember Don Johnson expressed a different point of view . . . .
Councilmembers approved the agreement with Huntsville Hotel Group.
Interim Finance Director Steve Ritter presented budget projections for the 2012-13 fiscal year last night.
Since there are still six months left in the fiscal year, estimates are rough figures. However, there is a possibility that expenses could exceed the City’s revenue by around $1.8 million dollars.
