One of the agenda items focused on at last night’s meeting of the Huntsville City Council involved the first reading of an ordinance authorizing the City Manager to update the Employee Policies and Procedures Manual.
City Manager Matt Benoit commented on the issue to councilmembers . . . .
Several councilmembers had reservations about making a move to granting these kind of policy decision-making powers to the City Manager’s office instead of having the council remain in control.
Mayor Mac Woodward suggested to Mr. Benoit that since this was the first reading of the ordinance to let councilmembers discuss the issue with him and then let it be his decision whether to bring it back to the council during the next meeting . . . .
