Counseling Available Following Student Fatalities

Published on December 16, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Early Saturday morning, three SHSU students were killed in a single-car crash at the intersection of Bowers Boulevard and Avenue I.  Killed in the accident were 19-year-old Blanca Espinal of Houston, 22-year-old Eric Torres of San Juan, and 20-year-old Alfonso Mata Jr of Brownsville.  Twenty-three-year-old German international student Thomas Roling of the Woodlands, who was injured, was taken to Huntsville Memorial, then transferred to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bryan.

The accident’s cause remains under investigation.  However, police say speed apparently played a part.

Counselors have been accessible to students affected by Saturday’s fatal accident at the counseling center since 8 this morning.
