Election Filing Dates

Published on July 30, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The City of Huntsville would like to remind all residents that the official filing dates for a place on the November 5, 2013 General Election ballot are now through August 26, 2013.

City Hall, located at 1212 Avenue M, is expected to be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the period.

City Secretary Lee Woodward said, “The fee to file for the general election is $1, and the Mayor’s at-large position as well as all four ward seats will be on the general election ballot.”

Ms. Woodward says, “There will also be a special election for the remainder of the at-large Position 1 seat, formerly held by Councilmember James Fitch. There are, however, specific filing dates that apply to the special election only, and we want to ensure all potential candidates have the information they need to differentiate between the two schedules.”

According to the Elections Division at the Secretary of State’s office, the filing period for the special election begins immediately following the City Council calling the election.

She said, “The filing period begins as soon as the Council calls the election for the vacant at-large position, which will likely be at a regularly-scheduled meeting in August. When scheduled, the ordinance will be clearly noted on the posted agenda.”
