Miranda Lambert’s Voice Soars on 2013 CMT Music Awards

Published on June 05, 2013 by CMT News

Miranda Lambert started her Wednesday night (June 5) on a strong note at the 2013
CMT Music Awards
with a performance of “Mama’s Broken Heart” and a win in the CMT performance video of the year category
for “Over You,” recorded live at the 2012 CMT
Artists of the Year
special.

Of course, in recent years, Lambert has enjoyed a lengthy series of career highlights
with wins at numerous award shows, not to mention hit records and major tours. The Texas native never lacked confidence onstage,
but as evidenced by her CMT Music Awards performance, Lambert has evolved into an even more natural performer as she commanded
the stage. She also looked stunning, walking around the stage in a short black dress and ankle boots.

With its exotic
rhythms and minor key, “Mama’s Broken Heart” isn’t the
typical country song. Written by Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally and “Merry
Go ‘Round”
, Lambert has said she wishes she had written the song herself. The fourth single from her Four the Record
album, it was released as a single in January.

“Mama’s Broken Heart” is also up for video of the year and female video
at the 2013 CMT Music Awards. As part of her band, the Pistol Annies, Lambert is also
nominated in the group video category for “Takin’ Pills.”

That’s
not all of her current nominations, though. Lambert’s “Fastest
Girl in Town”
is also nominated for best interactive music video at the upcoming O Music Awards.
