out of the spotlight.)
Back when Hootie the Blowfish
were the biggest thing in pop music, Darius Rucker was the lead singer. But he wasn’t
really the leader, if you know what I mean. That would be the band’s lead guitarist Mark Bryan.
So now that Rucker
is heading out and doing his own headlining tour, he told CMT Radio how different it all is: “To be honest with you, when
I was with Hootie, I was a singer — that’s all I did. … I didn’t put together the shows. I was a singer in Mark Bryan’s
band. So I just showed up and sang,” he said.
Referring to his solo career, he added, “With this — over here, doing
my own — I gotta get the band together, I gotta rehearse, I gotta decide what’s gonna go up. … How are we gonna do a show?
That’s all on me.”
Hopefully he’s made all those decisions and done all that rehearsing because Rucker’s tour kicks
off Friday (May 17) in Georgia and continues through September.
