OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert: "I’m Really Real"

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and
out of the spotlight.)

Miranda Lambert‘s insecurities
become her. Because who can relate to someone who’s never insecure? In
the February issue of Redbook magazine
, Lambert admits she feels that way often and cries onstage about once a
week. She even tells the story of a time when she and her husband Blake
had lost his father, her best friend from childhood and a dog she’d had forever. “I went back onstage, and I wasn’t
ready, but the crowd just embraced me. I was like, ‘OK, I’m really real. Like, all of this tough-girl image? My walls are
down and all these people can see it,'” she recalled. “But it was a good moment for me. I just laid it out there, like, ‘I’m
normal, I’m a girl, I have PMS, and I get emotional, and I’m sad sometimes, and that’s it.'” What’s so genuine about Lambert’s
revelation is that when she made her mark on country music — after her 2003 Nashville Star run and her first Top 20
hit, “Kerosene” — she definitely gave off a tough-girl vibe. But
it’s softening. “I feel like I got over the hump of trying to be like, ‘I have a chip on my shoulder, I’m strong all the time,’
you know,” Lambert said. “Because no one is.”
