Highway 19 Ribbon-Cutting

Published on April 29, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The official ribbon-cutting for Highway 19 in Walker County Friday was a major highway safety milestone for the community.

Many of those who helped get the highway built were on hand.

TxDOT District Engineer Catherine Heijl was given a big round of applause for her work. We talked with area engineer David Stephens . . . .

State Representatives Lois Kolkhorst and John Otto were also given much credit for getting the funding.

Mayor Mac Woodward emceed the event, giving credit to the many that helped bring this major project to finalization like former Mayor J. Turner, former councilmembers, and Tom Randall.

Walker County Judge Danny Pierce who was there, along with County Commissioners alongside the newly improved highway, invited former Precinct #3 Commissioner Buddy Reynolds to the “mike” to speak on the project he had worked on “for a long, long time . . . .”

The original plans for Highway #19 included widening the roadway to four lanes between Highway 30 and I-45, adding a grass median, and an additional three new bridges.
