At last week’s session of HISD trustees, Superintendent Dr. Steve Johnson updated board members on the status of the school finance litigation HISD and several other school districts are engaged in against the state in court in Austin. The issue is that the state, basically, is not adequately funding schools according to the Texas Constitution . . . .
Superintendent Johnson said that during the 82nd session of the legislature the district lost out on $5.2 million they needed. By the upcoming 84th session, the state may have resources that are needed for schools. Dr. Johnson said there is now $2.6 billion dollars in state surplus funds.
