Hostages Freed in Trinity

Published on October 14, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Friday morning, Walker County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team members and local authorities were able to free two women being held hostage by an armed man at a Trinity County residence in the 1500 block of Darrell Hall Drive.

Two women barricaded themselves in the rear room of a home after one of the women’s former husband, who was armed, had forced his way in.

Walker County SWAT team members were able to gain access to the home and free the hostages, while Trinity County law enforcement agencies successfully negotiated with 81-year-old Elmo Earl Nelms of Trinity.

Nelms is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

There were no injuries in the incident. The Walker County Sheriff’s office used their new armored tactical response vehicle in the rescue.
