Published on April 16, 2013 by Larry Crippen

On Monday afternoon, the Huntsville Police Department responded to a disturbance call in the 2600 block of  Montgomery Road which resulted in the discovery of what appeared to be a small explosive device with a fuse.

Explosive experts from the Houston Police Department and an investigator with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms examined and disarmed the device.

According to HPD Chief  Lunsford, the item was determined to be a homemade smoke bomb device, and officers removed and secured it in a separate location.

Lunsford added his thanks to the Houston Police Department and ATF for their assistance in the matter.
