Juneteenth Celebrated in Huntsville Saturday

Published on June 17, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Local Huntsville citizens gathered together Saturday for the annual Juneteenth parade to celebrate freedom. Cars, floats, and horses were organized at the Sam Houston Cultural Center on 10th Street for their march to Emancipation Park on MLK.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority had a float in the parade featuring girls 7 to 15 in their efforts to promote young leaders. They also passed out voter registration cards. At the first annual Barbecue Cook-off, Don Brown took home the trophy.
