Local Teen Indicted for Fatal Accident

Published on May 09, 2013 by Larry Crippen

A Walker County grand jury has indicted Huntsville teenager Bryson Richard O’Brien on two counts of causing an accident involving serious bodily injury or death.

According to reports from police, a reckless turn he made into a parking lot in the 2500 block of Sam Houston Avenue last December caused the two girls riding in the bed of his truck to be ejected.

Both 17 at the time, Jami Leann Chatham and McKayla Ryann Wright suffered severe head injuries when they fell out of the truck during the turn and hit the pavement. Chatham died from her injuries on New Year’s Day. Wright is still recovering from her injuries.

Alcohol was believed to have been a contributing reason for the accident. O’Brien is also said to have fled the scene.
