Main Street Recognition

Published on May 20, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The Huntsville Main Street Program has been designated as an accredited National Main Street Program for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards set by the National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Each year, the National Main Street Center and its partners announce the list of accredited Main Street programs that have built strong revitalization organizations.

Local Main Street Coordinator Kim McAuliffe said, “The Ten Criteria Report is something that we work toward year round.”

She said, “Their reinvestment reports are pretty impressive, too. Since 2001, over $2 million dollars has been reinvested downtown through private and public projects.”  She added,  “We’ve also seen a net gain of 30 business starts, expansions and relocations to downtown, and over 15,000 volunteer hours have been logged with the Main Street Program.”
