Published on July 19, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Last night around 5:40–contractors, reported to be working on the installation of light posts–punctured a natural gas line at 13th and University in Huntsville.

Emergency Management and law enforcement officials evacuated an appoximate half-mile area around the break. Huntsville City Secretary Lee Woodward reports that CenterPoint Energy “promptly arrived to seal the line.”

The City Secretary’s office notified local media, and they in turn notified the public of the gas line puncture and the evacuation. The area was given the “all clear” after about an hour.

There have been no reports of injury or damage thus far.
