Rabies Vaccine Drop for Skunks Scheduled

Published on December 18, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The Texas Department of State Health Services informs us area that drops of baits containing rabies vaccine for skunks will begin in late January in East Central Texas. Walker County is included in this area. The drop of the small packages is expected to take about one week–weather permitting. There will be 150 baits per square mile in the skunk zone.

This is an expansion of the Skunk Oral Rabies Vaccination study area that was initiated in 2012. The skunk vaccination program is still in its trial phase. The Department of State Health Services is still gathering information about the effectiveness of the vaccine in skunks.
