SAAFE HOUSE in Huntsville is currently seeking volunteers. SAAFE HOUSE is a non-profit that provides free and confidential services to victims of family violence and sexual assault, as well as helping prevent such occurrences through education in the community. In Walker County they operate a safe shelter for victims, but many of their clients are outreach.
The environment at SAAFE HOUSE is strictly confidential, so an interview is conducted before training. Depending on the area of interest a volunteer training experience could be as little as two hours, and those who want to work directly with clients would require up to 40 hours. Minimal pre-training is needed for office work, data entry, cleaning, resale shop, special projects, and fundraising. The forty hour training is held for those who would like to work directly in the shelter and/or with clients, answer the hotline, or transport clients. While it is especially beneficial for the organization to have some people with consistent schedules, many volunteer on a random basis, or respond as needed. To become a volunteer at SAAFE HOUSE contact volunteer coordinator Celi Rivas at email@example.com or at (936) 291-3529. An application is available at www.saafehouse.org or at the office 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. SAAFE HOUSE is located at 1469 Sam Houston Ave. at the corner of 15th St.
