At Commissioners Court Monday morning, Walker County Senior Center Board President Rachel Williford gave a comprehensive presentation of the issues at the center and ways in which those issues can be remedied.
After passing along the ways in which volunteers have been working recently to fix-up the center with painting and furniture, she informed them about a local furniture company that will be anonymously donating new floors to the center. And, she talked about tackling the desperately needed repair issues ahead . . . .
Williford said the center has a big problem with the roof leaking and with bathrooms that are in bad shape. The Senior Center is a County facility, so the Commissioners suggested their maintenance department could do an assessment.
Meanwhile, Ms. Williford said a fundraiser is planned September 26th at the Walker County Fairgrounds that will recognize all Meals-on-Wheels Volunteers. She also suggested that, if the facility is adequately repaired, it could possibly be rented out for “small venues.”
Also in Commissioners’ Court Monday, the planned courthouse beautification project was discussed. Precinct #3 Commissioner Warren told Commissioners labor help for the project could be available from TDCJ inmates. Planning and Development Director Andy Isbell will pursue developing this aspect of the plaza project.
